Essential Functions of Position

Brief Description: Under the general supervision of the Dean of Physical Education and work direction of the Director of Athletics, the Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach provides comprehensive leadership over the Men’s/Women’s Track and Field team in terms of California
Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Compliance, recruiting, ensuring
academic progress toward degree, as well as all other aspects of the intercollegiate
sport program for track and field, including, but not limited to: planning and executing
practice, training, and supervising student-athletes; scheduling athletic contests and
arranging transportation; preparing budgets; maintaining athletic equipment,
supplies and facilities; and enforcing district, college, and CCCAA rules and student
requirements. Coaching assignments may include day, evening, and weekend
classes, on and off campus responsibilities.

Job Duties: Provide instruction, mentoring, and coaching to student athletes in the skills,
techniques, and competitive strategies necessary for individual and team
achievement of athletic standards of performance; evaluate individual and team
performance and refine individual and team strategies throughout the season.
Lead in planning and scheduling competitions, tournaments, and events in
collaboration with coaches within and outside of the conference and in concert with
academic schedules, District policy, and California Community College Commission
on Athletics (CCCAA)/Western State Conference regulations; distribute schedules to
student-athletes, department personnel, and campus media personnel; collect and
report subject sport statistics.
Establish and maintain safety standards to protect student-athletes, equipment,
materials, and facilities; demonstrate techniques of movement and body mechanics
that prevent injuries; provide immediate assistance to injured student-athletes;
document injuries and submit record-keeping reports as required.
Create a positive atmosphere for the student-athletes; support academic progress,
retention, and matriculation of student-athletes through mentoring activities; refer
student-athletes to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals
as appropriate; maintain confidential student-athlete information.
Lead in recruiting, in compliance with CCCAA regulations, to identify and attract
promising student-athletes; provide referrals to prospective student-athletes to
academic and student services as appropriate; maintain contact with prospective student-athletes and provide prompt follow-up to inquiries from potential student-athletes.
Ensure program compliance within the subject sports program with CCCAA
regulations; establish and monitor effective procedures to ensure staff and student-athletes comply with such requirements; communicate the disciplinary or
corrective consequences of violations as set forth in the provisions of enforcement
procedures; report violations of regulations to the Athletic Director.
Promote interest and attendance at athletic events; lead in fund-raising efforts for
the program.
Provide work direction to others.

Ability To: Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of CCCAA/COA and Western State Conference rules

Initiate and maintain a team program that is consistent, reasonable, and effective for the student-athlete and the team.

Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject sport

Deliver coaching instruction in various learning styles

Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of community college students

Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery technologies into the learning process to enhance teaching and the educational experience

Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of athletic equipment
Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, athletes, alumni, the media and college sports fans.

Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact, patience, and courtesy

Establish and maintain effective working relationships, both on and off-campus

Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action

Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within subject field or discipline

Administer basic first aid

Physical Abilities: Strength, agility, or athletic skill to demonstrate skills to student-athletes

Operate computers and other office equipment and technology

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook

*Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience
*any associate degree and six years of
professional experience.
*Combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement that presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e,g., transcripts, publications, and other work products.)
*Possessions of a lifetime California Community College Instructor
*Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

*Applicants must meet the stated minimum qualifications by the date the application is submitted or complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency if they wish to be considered. If your degree does not specifically match one of the degrees listed in the minimum qualifications, you must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency and attach it to your application.

Required Licenses or Certifications

A First Aid Certificate issued by a recognized First Aid training program must be
obtained within the first three months of employment.

A CPR Certificate issued by a recognized CPR training program must be obtained
within the first three months of employment.

Desirable Qualifications

College coaching experience in subject sport preferred

Salary & Benefits

Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement.
Coaching assignments may include a coaching stipend. Hours per season are listed
in the collective bargaining agreement. This assignment includes a stipend.
